Savings Figures verified 2026-10-31

Example. For October to December 2026, the government kept PPF at 7.1% and NSC at 7.7%, unchanged from the quarter before.

Small savings schemes are the government’s own savings plans, mostly sold at the post office. See every scheme’s rate, lock-in and tax in one table in post office schemes side by side.

Questions people ask

What are small savings schemes?

They're savings plans run by the central government and sold mainly at post offices: the savings account, recurring deposit, time deposit, monthly income scheme, senior citizens savings scheme, PPF, Sukanya Samriddhi, NSC and Kisan Vikas Patra.

How often do small savings interest rates change?

The Ministry of Finance reviews them every quarter and announces the next quarter's rates just before it starts. Rates for October to December 2026 were kept unchanged by an order dated 30 September 2026.

Do all small savings schemes save tax?

No. On the old tax regime, deposits in PPF, Sukanya Samriddhi, NSC, the senior citizens scheme and the 5-year time deposit can lower your taxable income. Kisan Vikas Patra and the monthly income scheme don't.
