Questions people ask
What is an e-mandate?
It's a standing approval you give once so a merchant can debit a recurring payment from your card, prepaid wallet or UPI on a schedule, such as a subscription, an insurance premium or a SIP.
Do I need an OTP for every e-mandate payment?
No. Under RBI's E-mandate Framework, 2026, after registration, payments up to 15,000 rupees each go through without an OTP. For insurance premiums, mutual fund investments and credit card bills, the limit is 1 lakh rupees.
How do I stop an e-mandate?
Your bank or app must let you withdraw or change the e-mandate at any time, confirmed with an extra authentication step such as an OTP. You can also skip a single payment after the pre-debit notice, which must come at least 24 hours ahead.
