Questions people ask

What is an IFSC code?

IFSC stands for Indian Financial System Code. It is an 11-character code that points to one specific bank branch, so a NEFT, RTGS or IMPS transfer knows exactly where to go. The first four letters show the bank.

Where do I find my IFSC code?

It is printed on your cheque book and passbook, shown in your bank app, and listed on your bank's website. Each branch has its own code.

What happens if I enter the wrong IFSC?

The transfer may fail and come back, or go to the wrong place. Since April 2025, banks must show the receiver's name for NEFT and RTGS after you enter the account number and IFSC, so read that name before you pay.
